How PlayStation Stars Compares to Microsoft Rewards

Although Sony's PlayStation Stars loyalty program is similar to Microsoft Rewards, there are several differences that help it stand out.

PlayStation Stars Issues Persist After Nearly a Week

The issue persists as of Tuesday, June 11. Sony has recently acknowledged the situation via a push notification that was sent to PlayStation App users. "PlayStation Stars is currently experiencing issues," the message reads, adding that the company's engineers are already working on a solution. Sony began sending these notifications no later than June 10. The company did not elaborate on the nature of the outage, nor did it say anything regarding its scope.

The contents of user descriptions of the outage are fairly varied; some people claim they were sporadically able to log into the program using a desktop browser over the past week, but that they didn't receive any PlayStation Stars loyalty points for their purchases since the problems began. Meanwhile, others who attempted to do the same reported that Sony's website would just send them back to the registration page, or surface a 404 error. Some PlayStation Stars users have also claimed that the program's icon has completely disappeared from the PlayStation app in early June. It's possible that Sony itself removed the loyalty program shortcut until it finishes its work on deploying a fix.

PlayStation Stars has most recently experienced such major issues during the 2023 holiday season, when many users found that their purchases did not generate any loyalty points. Sony eventually remedied that issue and managed to award the missing points to the affected PlayStation Stars users. But the fix was not produced overnight, with some users waiting up to several weeks until their accounts started accurately reflecting their point totals. Based on how this newest outage has been developing, its resolution timeline may end up looking similar.

These ongoing issues may sour some people's experiences with Days of Play, Sony's annual promotion that comprises game sales, bonus PS Plus Premium titles, and community challenges. The promo kicked off on May 29 and is set to conclude on June 12. This annual celebration is normally a great opportunity to rack up loyalty points, and while that still holds true for its latest edition, it would appear that PlayStation Stars members will have to remain patient until Sony fixes the ongoing outage so that they can start claiming their recently earned rewards.
